5 string Cello by Clive Morris, Castell Nedd, Wales in Dorking, Surrey for sale

A beautiful professional quality 5 string Cello by respected UK maker Clive Morris (Castell Nedd, Wales) 2004. I commissioned this instrument to have Baroque details but play like a modern instrument. It's to the exact pattern of the c.1600 Amati Bros instrument in the Royal Academy collection - so unlike other 5 string cellos I've seen, the neck, nut, and bridge spacing are the correct width to play 5 strings comfortably. Clive's work is immaculate - sharp clear carving with top quality woods. Tuned C-G-D-A-E, the E string blends well and sounds like a cello, not a viol (a problem with some 5 stringers). Strung with Helicore and a custom Pirastro E string, and Perfection Pegs mean you don't need fine tuners. Matching Baroque style bridge and tailpiece included if you wish to convert to gut strung Baroque style, but I prefer the sound with the lighter Bois D'Harmonie tailpiece, modern bridge and strings pictured. The cello lives in a custom fitted Stevenson travel case.
